Guide to New GCSE Grading

From 2017 GCSE Maths grades go from Grade 9 (top), 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 (lowest grade).....( 9 different grades )................ as well as U
OLD grades A*, A, B, C, D, E, F, G ...................( 8 different grades )

With new 9 grades against 8 old grades you CANNOT say that grade 9 = A*, grade 8 = grade A, grade 7 = grade B ....      It is NOT as simple as that
There are 2 fixed points (as I like to call them).......grade 4 = old grade C .      grade 7 = old grade A
Statistically about 62% of students gained a grade C or better,. In the future about 62% will gain grade 4 or better
Statistically about top 20% of students gained a grade A or better,. In the future about 20% will gain grade 7 or better
In the future top 2% of students will gain grade 9, next 10% will gain a grade 8 , next 8 % will gain a grade 7 (this is the top 20 %)

The old grades A/A* are now replaced by grades 7, 8 and 9
The top grade B in the past now gains a grade 6
Low grade B in the past now gains a grade 5
Top grade C in the past will achieved grade 5

Grade C in the past mainly covered by grade 4

Grade D in the past mainly covered by grade 3

Grade E in the past mainly covered by grade 2

Grade G/F in the past mainly covered by grade 1

Foundation Tier papers cover grades 1 to 5;         Higher Tier papers cover grades 4 to 9
